Brooklyn ArtBlast After Party Update!
Uncategorized No Comments »As if three bands, a burlesque dancer, body painting, quick-witted comediennes and a firecracker MC weren’t enough, Baby in the Corner’s Brooklyn ArtBlast is thrilled to announce that following DJ Sambarella’s smokin’ after-party set we have secured DJ JD Samson to close out the night!!
For those not in-the-know, JD is a musical tour-de-force. Ever heard of a little band called Le Tigre? Yeah, that’s her with the androgynous hotness. She is also a member of the band The New England Roses and a member of electro-punk artist Peaches‘ live band, The Herms with Radio Sloan and Samantha Maloney. In 2006, JD collaborated with Junior Senior on the song “Can I Get Get Get”. AND she appeared in John Cameron Mitchell’s Shortbus!
In short, she cranks up the nightlife like a techno jack-in-the-box. Not to be missed!!!

BINGO Baby! Murray Hill at MoPitkins Monday Nights
Uncategorized No Comments »After an evening of bad tv and worse Chinese food, my fellow BITC crew member Courtney and I decided to take in a night of high culture, class, and spiritual enlightenment.
… but then we said, “nah! let’s go to MoPitkins and play bingo with Murray!”
So off to the East Village we ran … and what a BLAST we had!
Murray Hill and his co-host, the statuesque drag queen Linda Simpson, hosted an evening of wise-cracking, prize-giving Bingo good times.
The bingo party scene at MoPitkins is set up Monday nights in the back room of the street-level bar. There, you’ll find a 70’s retro-theme complete with organ lounge music and a bubble-lettered BINGO sign with sparkles. Judging by the lettering and well-worn edges, I would bet the bingo cards themselves have been handed down since 1973. I could be wrong.
The theme song to Three’s Company kicked the games in gear and a happy crowd cheered. Linda presented the prizes, Murray made fun of them, neither Courtney nor I won them. But the entertainment made each hilarious round a winner.
So.. for about 10 bucks, you can get a couple of bingo cards and a beer to celebrate when you win “Leave it to Beaver: Season 1″ (or other quirky prizes you won’t find at Church bingo!)
Go check it out this Monday! You might even catch a glimpse of Courtney and I fighting over the wind-up Cheeseburger Money Bank.
...but be forewarned, if you call “Bingo!” at the same time as someone else - you may be subjected to an Air Guitar Contest - to a guitar solo chosen by Murray!
C’mon Baby, Light My Fire…
Uncategorized No Comments »Whether you’re a candle-lover or a collector, you may have noticed the Baby in the Corner crew sprinkling this year’s cute (albeit flammable) freebie—matchbooks—all over town at bars, bodegas and other communal spots. Feel free to grab one as a reminder of all the red-hot acts we’re going to feature on Sept. 6…
And speaking of freebies, Baby in the Corner has just received word from another great art-loving sponsor, ALTOIDS, that they will be donating some sample product to our event for you all to try! Fresh entertainment and fresh breath…Who loves ya, baby!?

Uncategorized No Comments »At Baby in the Corner, it may seem like we have a one track mind sometimes. “Go to our event!” “Hey, guess who’s performing at our event!” “Did we mention we’re having an event?” We know. Summer is a narcissistic time of year. But we also truly, madly, deeply love to support like-minded events and the other awesome artists performing in the name of art and philanthropy. Enter…Party for the People. Check it oooouuuutttt! And, while you’re there, be sure to tell everyone about our event…heh heh heh
Oh summer, I hardly knew ya!
Line-up in da corner No Comments »Why does it always seem like summer just started right about the time when it’s about to end? Fall fashions showing up in all the store windows despite it still being insanely hot outside; “Back to School sales” now make you nostalgically wish you had a reason to buy a marble notebook and an NKOTB trapper-keeper; even the upcoming football season sounds like the only thing you are going to have to look forward to <ugh>. This posting has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that I wish (this) summer would last forever.
Was last summer longer? It feels that way. The weather was better, the outdoor concerts not as plentiful but more worthwhile and I definitely felt like I drank way more Mojito’s last summer than this (evening) one .. but I digress:
What does any of this have anything to do with the upcoming Baby In the Corner and the line-up that you have so patiently been awaiting.. nada much, except….. ….. ummm….
wait… oh.. nothing. Here’s the line-up:
8pm - Master of Ceremonies Murray Hill comedian/Guy-Friday, gets this party started .. right.
8:15 - Lolita Bras - Indie-Rockers with a heart of gold
9:ish- Comedienne Sue Ball turns on your heart-light till you laugh so hard you don’t even care if ET lives or dies!
9:20 - Folk-rockers Milton make sure you got your dancin’ shoes on.. but that they are comfortable dancin’ shoes at that.
10:ish Burlesque by the lovely Cousin Birdie - please make sure that your seats are in the upright position and your tray tables are properly stowed for take-off!
10:30 Go to the bar order an Alfonso Special and get your rock’s’-off with The Fatales
11:15 Bring your tube-socks for a late-night dance party with Dj Sambarella from Gruv Gallery; bar mitzvah style!
But you just “love to dance!” So do we and… we shall.

Milton the Band; Makes Me Feel Like..
My family spent a week every summer visiting my grandparents vacation home in Manahawkin, NJ. My sisters and I spent most of the summer counting down the days until suitcases were packed, cars filled and the family piled into the red station wagon and hit the New Jersey Turnpike. Time spent there was heaven. Grandma already had corn grilled and ready to eat by time we arrived weary and hungry; our invisible ink books completely visible Read More »
